Sites for people with normal interests
- Lesley Cutler Bridal Wear, based in Milton Keynes, Bucks, UK, offers consultation and high-quality tailored bridal, evening and other wear individually made to order for special occasions. Contact Lesley at an early date to make sure she can fit you into her busy schedule. The quality of her work is reflected by the huge demand for her bride and bridesmaid dresses. Yes, this is a plug for my sister, but her work is outstanding and she has appeared on TV, not without good reason.
- Mum only has the German instructions that came with her heart rate monitor, so I have done a translation for her.
- Arbeitsgemeinschaft Volkssternwarte Hagen e.V. is a local amateur astronomy observatory in Hagen, Germany, which is well worth a visit if you are in the area. Contact them via the website to see when they are open. This link is especially for a young lady who is also known by the nickname ÄKG - she knows who she is (from FAO ;-)).
- Astronomie.de is a virtual meeting place in German for anyone interested in astronomy. The site contains a wealth of information and links on almost everything connected with star-gazing and heavenly bodies (the stellar variety). This is another site ÄKG should visit.
Military history and militaria sites
The sites below are not listed in any particular order and mainly refer to various aspects of military history, if you like that sort of thing.
My sites
- My first site at www.zeltbahn.net looks at German Zeltbahn shelter quarters and related camouflaged equipment from 1892 until the present day. It features descriptions of the basic types and variants, German and related camouflage patterns, Zeltbahn shelter quarters in use as ponchos, shelters and tents and a gallery section.
- My German military document reference and collection site provides summaries of selected awards and documents and personal military records from 1870 to 1945 from my collection.
Military documents and awards
- Sebastian Bianchi's Wehrmacht Awards site at www.wehrmacht-awards.com is the definitive online resource for all aspects of German awards and associated militaria. It features an excellent forum visited by many highly knowledgeable collectors and authors, who provide a wealth of information, not only on militaria from the 1939-45 period, but also on OOBs and Imperial German awards and biographies.
- Gary Tankard's site at www.percy.clara.net is the most comprehensive online resource on German Wehrpass documents providing collectors with valuable information on understanding and deciphering Wehrpass entries and a wealth of details on units, campaigns and theatres organised according to divisions. The site also puts a human face on the story of World War II by describing the fates of many individuals as indicated by their Wehrpass entries and other documents. Gary's site is the original inspiration and model for the German military documents section at Zeltbahn.net.
- Dave Danner's military awards site contains a useful overview of the Imperial German pre-1918 states and their awards at http://home.att.net/~david.danner/militaria/states.htm. It offers brief descriptions of the the kingdoms, principalities, grand duchies, duchies and city states and their orders and decorations.
General
- Glenn Jewison's excellent and constantly growing site on the Austro-Hungarian Land Forces 1848-1918 at http://austro-hungarian-army.co.uk/ provides a wealth of information on the history, units, commanders, campaigns and awards of Germany's ally in World War One.
- Diving Eagles at www.eagle19.freeserve.co.uk is the definitive site on Germany's Fallschirmjäger (airborne forces) in World War II.
- www.feldgrau.com is a comprehensive guide to all branches of the German armed forces of World War II. It also features an excellent forum containing lively discussion offering the opportunity to meet fellow military history enthusiasts and historians online.
Military equipment
- www.german-helmets.com is the most comprehensive online resource on WWII German helmets covering the development, basic types and variants for collectors. It also features a valuable section on fakes, including helmet decals and the almost perfect reproduction chin straps to be found on the market today.
